Cleveland Ohio Same Sex Marriage Attorney

Same-sex marriage laws are rapidly evolving. Some but not all states recognize same-sex marriages. Others have legalized domestic partnerships and civil unions, but not gay and lesbian marriages. And still others do not formally recognize any type of union between same-sex couples. Couples who are considering a same-sex marriage, civil union or domestic partnership should talk to family law attorney with same-sex marriage experience to understand what rights and privileges automatically come with each type of union and what gaps may have to be filled through other legal arrangements, such as a living trust, last will and testament, power of attorney and/or advance directive. Baron Law LLC can assist you with these matters, and in addition can advise couples who are moving or traveling to different states how their legal rights might be affected when crossing state lines. Ohio Supreme Court Ruling

Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s historic decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, same-sex couples now have the right to marry nationwide. The Court’s decision represents a major change Ohio, and for that matter, the nation.  Previously Ohio was one of the 14 remaining states with a ban on same-sex marriage. With the release of the Court’s ruling on June 26, 2015, courthouses in Cleveland and across the state opened their doors to gay and lesbian couples to apply for marriage licenses and tie the knot.
